Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Luang Prabang - heritage tour (D)

As you arrive at Luang Prabang International Airport, a warm and friendly greeting awaits you. Your private guide and driver will be waiting for you in the arrivals lounge to transfer you to your hotel in downtown Luang Prabang.

In the afternoon, Embark on a city tour beginning with a visit to the magnificent Wat Xiengthong, an architectural masterpiece featuring a sweeping two-tiered roof and ornate mosaics, including a beautiful tree of life and glass montage on the rear temple wall. Explore the Royal Palace Museum, built in 1904 during the French colonial era for King Sisavang Vong and his family

In the late afternoon, you ascend to the top of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of a gilded stupa and a panoramic sunset view of the city and the Mekong River.

The dinner will be traditional Laos cuisine at a local restaurant while being entertained with folk songs and dances, the perfect way to immerse yourself in the country's culture. The tour concludes with a visit to the popular Night Market, renowned for its handmade textiles created by local and hill tribe artisans from the surrounding areas of Luang Prabang. You'll spend the night in Luang Prabang, ready for the next day's adventures.

Day 2: Luang Prabang - Ban Long Lao - Kuang Si waterfalls (B/L)

This morning, you'll explore two local villages, the Khmu Village of Ban Longlao Nung and the Hmong village of Ban Longlao Song, to witness their unique ways of life and how they work together in harmony. You'll walk through verdant rice paddies and vegetable fields before venturing into the mountainous forest. During your trek, you'll discover a cave that was once used as a bomb shelter by the locals during the Second Indochina War. Continuing on for an hour, you'll reach one of the numerous springs that feed the Kuang Si waterfalls and are home to sacred fish. After descending from the top of the falls, you'll savor a delightful Lao-style lunch in a stunning setting.

In the afternoon, take some time to unwind by the turquoise pool and visit the Bear Rescue Center, which houses several dozen animals rescued from poachers. The tour end with a stroll to the nearby Khmu village of Ban Thapene, renowned for its beautiful pool in the Kuang Xi Waterfalls. Spend the night in Luang Prabang, ready for another exciting day.

Day 3: Luang Prabang - Pak Ou caves - Nong Khiaw (B/L)

Rise early to partake in Laos' most sacred tradition, the daily morning almsgiving. Over 200 Buddhist monks depart from temples in the early hours and move through the old quarter of Luang Prabang to receive offerings from devotees. The monks meditate while walking on their barefoot, and locals offer them sticky rice, fruits (mostly bananas), sweets, and other foods in their bowls. You'll also visit the morning market, where locals trade their daily catch for rice, vegetables, fish, or chicken, providing an authentic glimpse into local life.

After breakfast, you'll board a boat and cruise up the Mekong, taking in the lush green forests and breathtaking landscapes. You'll stop at several villages to admire the stunning limestone karst scenery before disembarking to explore the mysterious Pak Ou Caves. These two connected caves are filled with thousands of gold-lacquered Buddha statues of various sizes and shapes left by devoted pilgrims. After the tour, you'll transfer by car to Nong Khiaw, a small town nestled along the languid Nam Ou River. Check into your hotel and relax for the evening. Overnight in Nong Khiaw.

Day 4: Nong Khiaw – Tad Mok – Ban Phayong (B/L/D)

The next day's adventure begins at 8 am as you board a local long-tail boat and head upstream through stunning landscapes to a small riverside village. Take some time to explore the village and visit a local school on weekdays to observe lovely children attending classes.

Afterward, embark on a one-hour trek to the Tad Mok waterfalls near the living area of the Khmu people. You can swim and enjoy a picnic lunch at the falls before embarking on a 2.5-hour trek through the jungle to reach the Hmong village of Ban Phayong.

Upon arrival, take a leisurely stroll around the village to acquaint yourself with the locals before having dinner with your host family. Overnight night in Ban Phayong.

Day 5: Ban Phayong – Muang Ngoi

Wake up early to witness the sunrise over the mountains and assist your host in preparing breakfast. Today's adventure includes a three-hour downhill trek through rice and corn fields to reach the banks of the Nam Ou River. Board a cruise that will take you upstream to the fishing village of Muang Ngoi.

In the afternoon, trek to the Khmu village of Ban Na and explore the Tham Kaang caves, which are believed to possess supernatural powers. Enjoy the sunset on your walk back to Muang Ngoi. Spend the night in Muang Ngoi.

Day 6: Muang Ngoi – Nong Khiaw – Muang Soune (B/L/D)

After having your breakfast, you will take the boat back to Nong Khiaw, where your local guide awaits you. Your first stop will be at the nearby market to purchase fresh food items before continuing towards Muang Soune. This village is situated along the banks of the Nam Ou River, approximately 65 kilometers away from Nong Khiaw. Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed by your host family. Following a brief rest, you will take a leisurely stroll around the village and observe the locals' daily routines. You will also visit the village chief's house and engage in a conversation with him about the town's living conditions, history, and everything else related to his homeland. Later on, you will enjoy a home-cooked lunch.

In the afternoon, you can either choose to unwind or participate in some optional activities such as rice planting and harvesting in the surrounding rice fields (depending on the season), discovering traditional fishing techniques, or taking a walk around the farms and rice fields. If you are interested, you may even dip in the inviting Nam Ou river. Alternatively, you can help your host family prepare dinner, which is an excellent opportunity to learn about Lao cuisine.

Day 7: Muang Soune – Nam Ou Riverside (B/L)

You wake up early to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the Nam Ou River and the neighboring mountains. Following breakfast, you'll spend the morning engaging in traditional fishing techniques and learning about fishing on the beautiful Nam Ou River. Additionally, you'll embark on a boat journey to explore the surrounding regions. At around 11 am, you'll return to the village and transfer back to Luang Prabang, with a stop at Ban Vanglae, where the charming Nam Ou Riverside Resort is situated. Spend the rest of the day unwinding by the swimming pool or strolling around the nearby village. You'll spend the night at Nam Ou Riverside Resort.
