Overnight in Luang Prabang
Rise with the sun and partake in one of Laos' most sacred traditions, the daily morning almsgiving. Over 200 Buddhist monks depart from temples in the early morning, moving lightly on their bare feet, to receive offerings from devotees in the old quarter of Luang Prabang. Next, you will experience the local way of life at the temporary morning market, where the locals exchange their daily catch for rice, vegetables, fish, or chicken.
After breakfast, embark on a city tour beginning with a visit to the magnificent Wat Xiengthong, an architectural masterpiece featuring a sweeping two-tiered roof and ornate mosaics, including a beautiful tree of life and glass montage on the rear temple wall. Explore the Royal Palace Museum, built in 1904 during the French colonial era for King Sisavang Vong and his family. After that, you will enjoy lunch at Tamarind, a top-rated restaurant offering some of the best local food in Luang Prabang.
Drive along the Mekong to the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre to discover the rich diversity of Laos' ethnic minorities, with traditional costumes, tools, and artifacts on display. Later in the day, climb to the top of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of a gilded stupa and a panoramic sunset view of the city and the Mekong River.
In the evening, savor dinner at a local restaurant with traditional dance and folk songs, providing the best way to experience Laos culture. The tour ends with a visit to the famous Night Market, where you can find a lovely selection of handmade textiles made by local and hill tribe people surrounding Luang Prabang. Spend the night in Luang Prabang, rejuvenated and ready for the next day's adventures.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Starting off the day, travelers can head to a community-based living rice farm located in the picturesque countryside of Luang Prabang. Surrounded by lush mountains and sprawling rice paddies, visitors can immerse themselves in the local rural life and experience what it's like to be a Laotian farmer. Engage in various farm activities or simply observe them from a traditional Lao rice house balcony that offers stunning views of rice terraces and an organic vegetable farm. Visitors can also explore nearby workshops where local artisans practice their crafts, including bamboo weavers, blacksmiths, and sugar cane processors. Before lunch, take a tour of the organic garden to learn about the use of natural herbs in traditional medicine. Lunch is served on the terrace overlooking the rice field.
Next, visitors can head to the breathtaking Kuang Si waterfalls, which cascade over three tiers and lead to a 50-meter waterfall that drops into spectacular azure pools before flowing downstream. A quick stopover at the Bear Rescue Center is also included, which houses dozens of animals rescued from the hands of poachers and traffickers. On the way back to the hotel, travelers can visit the Ock Pop Tock Living Craft Center, where weavers, spinners, and batik makers produce top-quality fabrics and offer free tours every half hour. This spot is also the perfect place to admire the sunset. Spend the night in Luang Prabang and get ready for more exciting adventures the next day.
